
MAASIN CITY – DT| Southern Leyte Provincial Office in collaboration with the Southern Leyte State University conducted a Training on Moringa Tea Production under the Shared Service Facility Program.
The activity was conducted at CONFor, SLSU Main Campus, Sogod, So. Leyte wherein twenty-two (22) participants from Pancil Ecological Rehabilitation Agrarian Reform Cooperative, Organisasyon sa Katawhang Mag-uuma sa Buenavista and Hydrophonics Farmers Association attended the activity.
During the morning session, three associate professors from SLSU Main Campus shared their expertise on various aspects of moringa processing and safety. Associate Professor IV, Vernabelle Balmori, presented the nutritional and medicinal benefits of moringa, along with key principles of food safety. Associate Professor I, Florencio Payac, focused on techniques for processing moringa tea to preserve both flavor and nutritional value. Lastly, Associate Professor I, Minerva Baclayon, discussed proper packaging and labeling practices to ensure regulatory compliance and enhance consumer awareness.
The participants were highly engaged, eager to apply the insights from these discussions to improve their production methods within their respective organizations.
In the afternoon, Sir Omar Alo together with Sir Florencio Payac from SLSU Main Campus led a hands-on skills training session on the processing of moringa tea. The participants actively participated in the training, motivated by the potential to apply these new skills in their future endeavors. The primary objective of this activity is to encourage the continued use of SSF equipment while simultaneously educating participants on efficient moringa processing techniques.
These techniques aim to support their organizational goals and empower them to utilize moringa, a valuable local resource, more effectively.
In addition to its well-known medicinal and nutritional benefits, moringa holds potential to improve their economic situation in the future.
