DPWH SL1DEO marks 127th DPWH Anniversary with Tree Planting Activity

MAASIN CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways Southern Leyte 1st District Engineering Office joins the nationwide simultaneous tree planting on June 11, 2025 as part of the agency’s 127th anniversary celebration.

The tree planting activity led by Assistant District Engineer Gideon Sacro, took place in Danao Forest Park, Brgy. Malapoc Norte, Maasin City. The employees of the DPWH Southern Leyte 1st DEO planted around 1000 seedlings in coordination with the DENR-PENRO.

“Tree planting activities aim to promote environmental sustainability, enhance biodiversity, and mitigate the impacts of climate change”, said Assistant District Gideon C. Sacro.

“The purpose of this activity is to encourage environmental conservation and foster a sense of environmental responsibility among the Department’s officials and employees”, ADE Sacro added.

This activity aligns with the observance of Philippine Arbor Day, which is celebrated every month of June through tree planting as mandated by Presidential Proclamation No. 643 and Republic Act No. 10176 (Arbor Day Act of 2012). Celebrating the DPWH Anniversary and Arbor Day by planting trees is one of the most significant ways to protect and preserve our planet.
