MAASIN CITY — After the popularity and high performance rating of -father-and-daughter tandem President Rodrigo Duterte and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, it appeared that few family members were also successful in terms of public service.
One of which are the Mercado family from the province of Southern Leyte.
According to RP Mission and Development Foundation Inc (RPMD), Maasin City Mayor Nacional “Nikko” Mercado led in the entire Region VIII with a 70% performance rating in the September 2021 survey, while his father Rep. Roger “Oging” Mercado was among the top 5 in the Eastern Visayas with 57% rating.
The young and dynamic city Mayor Mercado, who ranked 1st in top performing mayor, is famous for his mantra “Ajonay”, which means unity in helping towards a common goal.
Meanwhile, Rep. Oging Mercado, who is well-known for his “Unity, Solidarity, and Teamwork,” was also among the top 5 outstanding representatives in the region.
Among the top 5 mayors are: Ormoc City’s Richard Gomez with 66%; Mayor Alfred Romualdez of Tacloban City with 58 percentage mark; Mayor Diego Rivera of Calbayog City with 56% rating and 5th spot was obtained by Mayor Jose Carlos Cari of Baybay City with 51% percentage votes.
“The ratings and rankings are greatly dependent on their job performances… most importantly, in addressing and responding to the effects of Covid19 pandemic,” Dr. Paul Martinez, Executive Director of RPMD said.
The RPMD Public Satisfaction Survey conducted by RP Mission and Dev’t Foundation, Inc. is an independent, non-commissioned nationwide survey and performed per district/city in every region with a total of 10,000 respondents and were asked “Do you approve or disapprove the way (name of the Mayor/Governor/Congressman) is handling his/her job?
